What We Do
NIPPON is a cultural initiative connecting people across borders through traditional dance and festival culture.

NIPPON promotes cultural exchange, education, and performing arts through traditional Japanese dance and festival culture.
Through dance, we create opportunities for people from different cultures to meet, connect, and begin dialogue. Currently,
we are developing three main projects.

Ⅰ）Future Lab : Festival × SDGs
Future Lab: Festival × SDGs is an educational program that explores the values of the SDGs through Japanese festival culture.
Japanese festivals have a unique inclusive spirit: anyone can participate regardless of age, nationality, or experience.
This spirit strongly resonates with the SDG principle of “No One Leaves Behind.”Festival culture and traditional dance in Japan represent more than artistic heritage.
They also embody the resilience of communities that support one another in difficult times.
Today, 38 traditional Japanese festival practices are inscribed on UNESCO’s ntangible Cultural Heritage list.
■The program consists of three parts:
・Short lecture on Japanese festival culture
・Awa Odori Dance Experience (50 min)
・Reflection (20 min)
■program has been developed as a cultural education and peace education
■program for schools, international organizations, and educational institutions.
■ 「未来ラボ！祭×SDGs」は、日本の祭文化を通してSDGsの価値を体験的に学ぶ教育プログラムです。
日本の祭には、年齢・国籍・経験を問わず、誰もが参加できる包摂性があります。
この価値は、SDGsの理念である 「No One Leaves Behind（誰一人取り残さない）」という考え方と深く共鳴しています。
日本の祭文化や民族舞踊には、文化的価値だけでなく、人々が苦難を乗り越え、支え合う力――文化的レジリエンスが宿っています。
日本の祭文化は世界的にも高く評価され、現在38件の祭礼行事がユネスコ無形文化遺産に登録されています。

Ⅱ）Asia-Ren
The Asia Awa Odori Team is an intercultural dance project launched in 2023.After the COVID-19 pandemic, many societies experienced division and isolation.
In response, we asked a simple question:
Can dance reconnect people across cultures?
The project centers on participation in the famous Koenji Awa Odori Festival in Tokyo.
The initiative began as a very small experiment with five dancers from three countries.
Over time, the circle expanded and eventually grew into a team of more than 100 dancers from 13 Asian countries.
Dancers perform wearing traditional costumes from their home countries while dancing together to the rhythm of Awa Odori.
The visual impact and joyful atmosphere attracted significant attention.
In their first participation in the Koenji Festival in 2023, the team received.
3rd place among 164 participating groups.
The project was also featured in the national newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun under the headline: “Different Countries, One Heart.”
アジア連は、2023年にスタートした国際文化交流プロジェクトです。
コロナ禍を経て、社会には分断や孤立の空気が残っていました。
そのような時代の中で、踊りを通してアジアの人々と交流しようという思いから、このプロジェクトは始まりました。
活動の中心は、東京で開催される高円寺阿波おどりへの参加です。
最初は3カ国5名から始まった小さな試みでした。
しかし交流は次第に広がり、最終的にはアジア13カ国・100名以上の舞踊手が参加するプロジェクトへと成長しました。
参加者は母国の民族衣装を身にまとい、言葉や文化の違いを越えて同じリズムで踊ります。
その姿は大きな反響を呼び、初参加となった2023年の高円寺阿波おどりでは
164団体中 第3位を受賞しました。
この取り組みは読売新聞社会面に 「国は違えど心は同じ」という見出しで紹介されました。 ★Link→Detai Asiaren
Ⅲ）Asian Folk Dance Ensemble
Through the connections formed in the Asia Awa Odori project, a new cultural exchange initiative emerged.
In 2026, a dancer from Thailand who had participated in the Asia Awa Odori Team contacted us.
They were organizing a memorial event in Tokyo to honor the late Queen Sirikit and invited dancers from other Asian countries to participate.
This became the starting point of a new stage project where traditional dances from different
Asian cultures are presented together.
The performance was titled: “Asian Smiles.”
Dancers from Myanmar, China, Thailand, and Japan come together to perform their traditional dances, expressing a journey from empathy to fusion. The performance culminates in a joyful Awa Odori, where the audience joins in, filling the venue with smiles.
This is our first step—a small but meaningful one. “Dance is a universal language; when we dance together, a dialogue begins.” We are committed to nurturing this new seed with great care.
The performing group was named: Asian Folk Dance Ensemble.
Dancers from Myanmar, China, Thailand, Japan, and other countries gathered to share their traditional dances.
At the end of the performance, the dancers invited the audience to join them in dancing Awa Odori together, filling the venue with smiles and shared joy.
This small project became the beginning of a new form of Dance Dialogue across cultures.
The Asian Folk Dance Ensemble is still a small seed, but we hope to nurture it and let it grow into a meaningful cultural exchange initiative for the future.
アジア連の交流の中から、新しい文化交流プロジェクトが生まれました。
2026年、アジア連に参加していたタイの舞踊手から、母国の故シリキット王妃を追悼するイベントに、アジアの舞踊手にも参加してほしいという相談がありました。
このイベントをきっかけに、
アジア各国の伝統舞踊を紹介し合う新しい舞台プロジェクトが始まりました。
この舞台のタイトルは：Asian Smiles（アジアの微笑み）
出演チームは：Asian Folk Dance Ensemble
と名付けられました。
ミャンマー、中国、タイ、日本などの舞踊手が参加し、それぞれの国の伝統舞踊を披露し、共感から融合を表現し、最後は、観客も一緒に阿波おどりを踊り、会場に笑顔が溢れる舞台です。
今回、初めての小さな一歩ですが、
踊りは世界の共通言語・共に踊るとき、対話が始まる。
新しい種を大切に育てていこうと思っております。
