A Year that Shaped My Journey

In my early career, I experienced something that deeply shaped
my understanding of artistic expression.

When I was young, the dance company I belonged to received an unexpected request to choreograph scenes for the film Dreams, directed by Akira Kurosawa.

After submitting choreography drafts and receiving approval, I was assigned to provide dance instruction to the actors.
I then spent nearly a year as part of the production team.　
The filming took place in a village set built in nature near Gotemba.

Every detail—even the shape of the clouds—was carefully considered, and the crew worked under intense pressure.

One day, the filming was delayed because the director had not yet arrived.

The set grew restless.　
Then, an elderly man who had been quietly planting flowers by the roadside stood up and said, “Let’s begin.” 　He was Akira Kurosawa.

In that moment, the atmosphere of the entire set transformed
Filming began immediately.　
It is a scene I will never forget.

Through conversations with actors, I also learned about his unique approach to filmmaking.
There were days when filming would be canceled without explanation, only to wait for the perfect moment.

But when that moment came, everything aligned to capture something real.

Even in extremely demanding conditions, he never lost respect for people.

At the end of each shoot, he would express his gratitude sincerely.

Filmmaking, I realized, is not created by actors alone.

It is the result of collaboration among countless people—technical staff, designers, local communities, and many others.

Through this experience, I came to understand that true creation emerges from human connection and shared dedication.

This experience remains the foundation of my work today.
Because dance, too, is something we create together.

私をつくった一年！

若い頃、私は黒澤組の一員として映画制作の現場で、
「表現とは何か」を初めて深く考える経験をしました。

若い頃、所属していた舞踊団に、映画『夢』の振付依頼が突然届きました。
作品は、映画監督 黒澤明 によるものです。

振付のデッサンを提出し了承を得た後、私は俳優への舞踊指導を担当することになり、
約1年にわたり黒澤組の一員として撮影に関わることになりました。

撮影現場は御殿場の自然の中に作られた村。
天候や雲の形まで細かく指定される中、スタッフは常に緊張感の中で動いていました。

ある日、撮影開始時間になっても監督が現れず、現場が騒然となりました。
そのとき、
道の脇で花を植えていた一人の老人が立ち上がり、「じゃあやろう」と言いました。

それが黒澤監督でした。
その瞬間、現場の空気が一変し、撮影が始まりました。
その光景は今でも忘れることができません。

また、俳優たちからは、撮影に対する監督の姿勢について多くの話を聞きました。
何日も撮影を行わず、「今日はやめよう」とだけ言われる日が続くこともある。

しかし、すべてが整った瞬間に「本物の一瞬」を撮る。　
そのために、俳優もスタッフも全力で応える。

過酷な撮影の中でも、監督は常に人への敬意を忘れず、
撮影が終わると「ありがとう」と何度も声をかける。

その姿に、多くの人が心を動かされていました。
映画制作は、俳優だけでなく、技術スタッフ、美術、衣装、地域の人々など、
多くの人の力によって成り立っています。

この経験を通して私は、　
作品とは、一人の力ではなく、多くの人の想いと関係性の中で生まれるものだと実感しました。

この経験は、今の私の活動の原点となっています。
踊りもまた、多くの人とともに創り上げるものだからです。
