Dance connects hearts beyond borders.
I began learning Japanese dance as a child.
By my teenage years, I was already teaching dance.
Later, I joined a performing company dedicated to creating new expressions of Japanese dance.
As a dancer, instructor, and choreographer, I had opportunities to perform and work both in Japan and abroad.
In my early career, I had the opportunity to work on the film Dreams directed by Akira Kurosawa,
where I was responsible for dance instruction.
I spent nearly a year as part of the production team.
On set, I witnessed how an enormous amount of time, energy, and dedication was devoted to even a single moment of the film.
The director, actors, crew members, and even local residents all worked together to create one unified work.
Through this experience, I learned that true artistic expression is not created by an individual alone, but emerges from the shared efforts and connections of many people.
A major turning point in my life came when I met stage director Sadao Fuseya, who has created performances with dance and music companies from more than 70 countries around the world.
Under his guidance, I became involved in the production of international performances, working with artists from more than 30 countries.
Through these experiences, I discovered the power of the performing arts to connect people across cultures.
At the same time, I also witnessed how difficult mutual understanding can sometimes be when people from different backgrounds come together.
Yet I learned that something special happens when people share a stage, a rhythm, and a moment of creation.
Dance allows people to communicate beyond language.
In 2023, we formed the Asia Awa Odori Team, bringing together dancers from across Asia to participate in the Koenji Awa Odori Festival in Tokyo. What began with just five people from three countries grew into a group of more than 100 dancers from 13 Asian nations.
When they danced together, differences of language and nationality seemed to disappear. Smiles spread, and a shared rhythm united everyone.
That moment reminded me of a simple but powerful truth:
Dance is a universal language.
This belief is the foundation of NIPPON.
Through traditional Japanese dance and festival culture, we seek to create opportunities for people from different cultures to meet, share, and understand one another.
Our goal is not only to preserve tradition, but to build bridges between cultures and generations.
When people dance together, they begin to see each other not as strangers, but as partners in creating a shared future.
I believe that dance can open the door to dialogue, friendship, and peace.
The name NIPPON reflects our wish to share the spirit of Japan with the world.
And I hope that through NIPPON, many people around the world will experience that joy.

Dance connects hearts beyond borders. 踊りは国境を越えて心をつなぐ。
私は幼少期から日本の踊りを学び、十代の頃には舞踊の指導を行っていました。
その後、日本の新しい舞踊表現を目指す舞踊団に参加し、舞踊手として、また指導者・振付師として国内外で活動してきました。
若い頃には、映画監督 黒澤明 の作品『夢』において舞踊指導を担当し、約1年にわたり制作チームの一員として映画づくりに携わる機会をいただきました。
撮影現場では、作品の一瞬のために膨大な時間とエネルギーが注がれ、監督をはじめ、俳優、スタッフ、地域の人々まで、すべての人が一つの作品を創り上げていく姿を目の当たりにしました。
その経験を通して、表現とは個人のものではなく、多くの人の想いと関わりの中で生まれるものだということを深く学びました。
私の人生の大きな転機となったのは、世界70カ国以上の舞踊団や音楽団体の日本公演を手がけてきた演出家、布施谷貞雄氏との出会いでした。
布施谷氏のもとで舞台制作に携わる中で、私は30カ国以上の海外舞踊団や音楽団体の舞台づくりに関わる機会をいただきました。
さまざまな文化をもつ人々が一つの舞台を創り上げていく過程の中で、芸術が国や文化を越えて人をつなぐ力を持っていることを実感しました。
同時に、文化や価値観の違いから生まれる相互理解の難しさも、数多く経験してきました。
しかし、舞台の上で同じリズムを共有し、共に踊るとき、人は言葉を越えて心を通わせることができる――その瞬間を何度も目にしてきました。
2023年には、東京・高円寺阿波おどりへの参加を目指し、アジア各国の舞踊手による「アジア連」を立ち上げました。
最初は3カ国5名から始まった小さな試みでしたが、阿波おどりを共に踊る中で交流が広がり、最終的には13カ国100名を超えるチームへと成長しました。
言葉も文化も異なる人々が、同じリズムで踊り、笑顔を交わす姿を見たとき、私は改めて確信しました。
踊りは世界の共通言語である。
この想いこそが、NIPPONの活動の原点です。
私たちは、日本の伝統的な踊りや祭文化を通して、国や文化を越えて人と人が出会い、理解し合う場をつくりたいと考えています。
伝統を守るだけでなく、踊りを通じて新しい出会いを生み、未来へつながる文化交流の場を育てていくこと。それがNIPPONの願いです。
踊りを通して、世界の人々が出会い、笑顔を交わし、共に未来を描くことができる――
そのような場をこれからも創り続けていきたいと思います。
NIPPONという名前には、「日本の心を世界に届けたい」という願いが込められています。
