NIPPON was founded in May 2005 under the theme
Dance is a Universal Language – Dialogue through Dance.
Dance is a universal language. Dialogue begins when we dance together.
Through traditional dance activities, we aim to connect people beyond differences of race, language, gender, age, and religion, and to contribute to the creation of an inclusive and harmonious society.
Japan has a rich diversity of traditional dances. Among them, we focus particularly on folk dance traditions that embody diversity, creativity, and cultural resilience, sharing their beauty with communities both in Japan and around the world.

■Our Current Projects
Ⅰ）Future Lab: Festivals × SDGs
For centuries, festivals in Japan have supported community life and brought people together.
We believe the inclusive spirit of festival culture resonates strongly with the United Nations principle of the SDGs: “Leave No One Behind.”
Based on this perspective, we developed an educational program titled
Ⅱ）Future Lab: Festivals × SDGs.
This program combines lectures with hands-on experience through Awa Odori dance, creating an interactive learning environment.
The program has been introduced as an example of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
Ⅲ）Asia Awa Odori Team
In 2023, after the global pandemic, we launched the Asia Awa Odori Team to rebuild human connections that had been weakened by social division.By dancing together in Awa Odori—one of Japan’s most vibrant traditional festival dances—participants from different Asian countries engage in grassroots cultural exchange.The project began with just five participants from three countries. one of Tokyo’s largest summer festivals, members trained together for several months.
On the day of the festival, the team had grown to over 100 dancers from 13 Asian countries.
Their performance—featuring participants proudly wearing their national costumes—was warmly.
received and won 3rd place among 164 teams.

Ⅳ) International Recognition
In March 2026, NIPPON was listed in the Music in Peacebuilding Hub Directory of
Min-On Music Research Institute (MOMRI).
This directory introduces organizations around the world that use music and performing arts to promote peacebuilding and intercultural dialogue.
Although NIPPON is a small independent organization, we are honored to contribute to the global community working toward peacebuilding through the arts.

NIPPONは、「踊りは世界の共通言語 ― Dialogue through Dance ―」
をテーマに、2005年5月に設立されました。
伝統舞踊の活動を通して、人種・言語・性別・年齢・宗教などの違いを越えて人と人をつなぎ、包摂的で調和のある社会の実現を目指しています。
日本には多様な伝統舞踊があります。
その中でも私たちは、多様性・創造性・文化的レジリエンスを体現する民族舞踊に着目し、その魅力を日本国内だけでなく世界へ発信しています。 これまで私たちは、次のような活動に取り組んできました。
舞踊教育および文化普及プログラム 地域の小学校での文化教育活動 海外での公演活動 海外の大学における日本文化紹介 これらの活動を通して、文化を通じた対話と相互理解を育んでいます。

日本の祭りは、何世紀にもわたり地域社会を支え、人々を結びつけてきました。
私たちは、この祭り文化が持つ包摂性が、国連のSDGsの理念
「誰一人取り残さない（Leave No One Behind）」
と深く共鳴していると考えています。 この視点から開発された教育プログラムが
**「未来ラボ！祭×SDGs」**です。 講義と阿波踊り体験を組み合わせた体験型プログラムで、身体を通して学ぶインタラクティブな教育活動として実施しています。
本プログラムは、**ESD（持続可能な開発のための教育）**の取り組みとして紹介されています。
Ⅱ）アジア連（Asia Awa Odori Team）
2023年、コロナ禍を経て生まれた社会の分断を乗り越え、人と人とのつながりを再び築くことを目的に、アジア連を立ち上げました。
日本を代表する祭り文化である阿波踊りを共に踊ることで、アジア各国の人々が草の根レベルで交流する文化プロジェクトです。
活動は、3カ国5名の参加者からスタートしました。
東京を代表する夏祭り
東京高円寺阿波おどりへの参加を目標に練習を重ねた結果、当日はアジア13カ国・100名以上のチームへと成長しました。
民族衣装をまとった参加者たちのパフォーマンスは大きな反響を呼び、164団体中第3位を受賞しました。この様子は読売新聞にて「国は違えど心は同じ」という見出しで紹介されました。
Ⅳ）Asian Folk Dance Ensemble
私たちの活動には、駐日アジア各国大使館とも関係の深い舞踊専門家や文化関係者が多く参加しています。そのつながりから生まれたのが、Asian Folk Dance Ensembleです。
各国の舞踊家が自国の民族舞踊を紹介し合い、共演しながら新しい舞台表現を創り出す文化交流プロジェクトです。この活動は「アジアの微笑み（The Smiles of Asia）」をテーマに、アジアの文化的多様性を祝福する舞台として発展しています。
Ⅴ）活動が国際機関に登録されました。
2026年3月、NIPPONはMin-On Music Research Institute（MOMRI）が運営するMusic in Peacebuilding Hub Directoryに掲載されました。
このディレクトリーは、音楽や舞台芸術を通して平和構築や異文化対話に取り組む世界各国の団体を紹介する国際的なプラットフォームです。
私たちは小さな団体ではありますが、芸術を通して平和構築に取り組む世界のコミュニティの一員として活動できることを大変光栄に思っています。
